Dear Parents,
I am looking forward to working with your child next year. It is always sad to end one year, but exciting to begin a new one.
Over the summer, please encourage your child to read. We work diligently in second grade on reading comprehension and fluency. Comprehension is a huge challenge for second graders because they are no longer learning to read, but are now reading to learn.
It would also give them a headstart if you practiced their addition/subtraction facts over the summer. We work with 2 and 3-digit numbers almost immediately, so the fingers just don't work. A good website is www.hartcourt.com.
Please note the supply list for 2009-2010 under the Bulletin Board link. It gets everyone off to a great start if you bring in the supplies on Back-to-School day, which will be Thursday, August 20. Please label everything (except markers/crayons) prior to bringing them to school.
I love parent volunteers. It would be great to have a parent(s) who would be willing to do an activity with the students once a week. It would be something relating to what we are studying. If you are interested, please let me know.
